An obliga-torii photo of Fushimi Inari’s famous gates in Kyoto, Japan. The day I was at the shrine it was absolutely packed. To get this photo I only had one shot - I literally sprinted as fast as I could in front of a huge group of people on the path so I could get at least one photo without anyone in the frame. Luckily it paid off - I ended up with this picture of the afternoon light trickling through the vermilion torii.

Possibly the most peaceful and beautiful 2 hour hike you’ll ever do. Massive old growth trees, ancient temples, calming rivers, and a lush forest follows you along the entire route. When we reached the temple at the top, nobody was up there but an older Japanese woman reciting chants, while a monk slowly beat on a large drum.

On her way home. In Gion district in Kyoto, scenes like this are not too hard to find. The lady with the umbrella is a maiko, an apprentice geiko. And do not think that the kimono she wears was chosen at random. It was a perfect match for the time of the year (autumn). Also notice at the way she's walking and her posture. Perfection.

Ghosts. The lady with the flowers in her hair is a maiko. That is an apprentice geiko. And since this is Kyoto, it's "geiko", not "geisha". Geisha operate in Tokyo. Geiko are becoming becoming more and more rare, so it looked appropriate to photograph them as ghosts, fading away in their habitat.

Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺, literally "Temple of the Golden Pavilion"), officially named Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺, literally "Deer Garden Temple"), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the most popular buildings in Kyoto, attracting many visitors annually. This is the Yasaka temple, in Kyoto. This is a typical subject for a shot, with its illumitaed lanterns. I decided to try something a bit original, using HDR and converting the image to black and white to highlight the contrast between the elements.
